"Back in 1974 in the small town of Lowell, Michigan (population 5,600) 3-on-3 basketball was born. The Gus Macker started with 17 friends playing 3-on-3 to decide who was the best team. Now the Gus Macker tournament has grown to 5,100 teams (20,400 players) played each July in the town of Belding, Michigan.
"Since then 3-on-3 basketball tournaments have sprung up all over the nation. In 1987, some friends from Dallas wanted me to come play in a 3-on-3 tournament. After my trip to Dallas, I came up with the idea to bring 3-on-3 basketball to Little Rock.
"Together with Wally Hall, Estel Jeffery and the many great sponsors and volunteers, Little Rock now is home to the fourth largest 3-on-3 tournament in the country. This is a great tribute to the city of Little Rock and the people of Arkansas. Even though we are not the largest, we are the best 3-on-3 tournament in the country.
"Each year, we strive to make HoopFest the best 3-on-3 tournament in the nation and together with the help of super people and sponsors, we realize our goal."
